Papoose (3-4 Years of Age)
Hello I am Mandi Pryor! I am a teacher aide at Carrie Busey school. I have been working with kids for the last 15 years. When we aren't in school, you can find me, my husband, and my three kids skating and enjoying the outdoors. This will be my first year at Indian Acres. I am so excited and can not wait for summer!
*A note on Papooses: To ensure their experience is as enjoyable as possible, all Papoose swimsuits will be left in the Papoose room for the week and will be sent home in their backpacks on Friday. All Papooses must be fully-potty trained.
8:15 Arrival (7:30 Early Arrival)
At this time, Papooses go into the clubhouse and read books with the counselors.
8:30 Flag Circle
Papooses go out to the Papoose Area and participate in Flag Circle. On Fridays, we sing a song for the whole camp.
8:40 Morning Meeting
The Papoose Team Leader takes attendance, reviews rules (example: “Stay with your counselor”), goes over the day's activities, and tells everyone who their counselor is.
8:50 Free Play
Playtime! Various stations of toys and activities are set up each day, allowing children to choose what they'd like to do. Examples include blocks, bikes, books, the sandbox, painting, dollhouses, and free swim at the baby pool or 123 pool. Children also complete a craft daily.
9:30-9:50 Visitor (Usually Fridays only)
On days with a special event or speaker, Papooses see them at this time. Examples include police officers, a visitor from the planetarium, and more!
Papooses participate in cleaning up their play area and putting away toys.
10:35 First Swim Change/Second Swim Snack
Half of the Papooses change into their swimsuits, while the other half eats snack. Water is always provided with the day's snack.
10:42 First Swim Snack/Second Swim Change
The groups switch; one eats snack while the other changes.
10:55 First Swim Lessons/Second Swim Playground
Half of the Papooses attend their swim lessons. (On Friday there is free swim, unless a lesson had to be missed due to inclement weather.) The other group has playground time. On hot days, they may go to the baby pool instead for free swim.
11:15 First Swim Playground/Second Swim Lessons
The groups switch. The second group attend swim lessons while the first group changes into dry clothes and goes to the playground. On hot days, they may go to the baby pool instead.
11:35 Second Swim Change
The second swim group returns from the pool and changes into dry clothes.
11:50 Line Up/Dismissal
All Papooses sit in the Papoose area. Fence pickup campers are dismissed first with 2-3 counselors. Circle drive pickup camps walk together to the clubhouse and read books with their counselors until picked up.
